Four steps

How to play in the browser

  1. Open

    Press Play in browser on a server above, on a computer with Chrome or Edge.

  2. Nickname

    Type the name other players will see.

  3. Load

    The game loads once (about 30 MB) and then downloads the server’s own content.

  4. Play

    Click the game to aim with the mouse. Esc gives the mouse back.

  • Best on a PC. Mouse and keyboard, Chrome or Edge. Crowded rounds run smoother on a computer than on a phone.
  • Phones and tablets. On-screen touch controls: left thumb moves, right thumb aims. Play in landscape.
  • Your progress stays. Your browser keeps your player ID, so your skins, coins and levels are yours on every visit – use the same browser.
  • Prefer the desktop game? The same servers are open to Counter-Strike 1.6 on Steam and non-Steam.

Can I really play CS 1.6 in the browser?

Yes. Open the page, type a nickname, pick a server and you are in the game – no download, no Steam account and no installation.

Is it free?

Yes, playing is free. VIP on the servers is optional.

Which servers can I join from the browser?

Only the two Sweden Codes servers: Zombie Plague (port 27015) and the CS2 skins public server (port 27016). The browser version cannot connect to other servers.

Do I need Counter-Strike 1.6 installed?

No. Everything runs in the browser tab. About 30 MB loads the first time; later visits start from your browser’s cache.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes, with on-screen touch controls (beta). A computer with a mouse still plays best, especially in crowded rounds.

Which browser should I use?

A current Chrome or Edge on a computer works best. The game needs WebGL 2 and WebAssembly, which every modern browser has.

Are my skins and levels saved?

Yes, on the server, tied to the player ID your browser keeps. Play from the same browser to keep them.

The browser client connects only to the Sweden Codes servers. It runs on the open-source engine Xash3D FWGS (GPL-3.0) and cs16-client (GPL-2.0). Counter-Strike is a trademark of Valve Corporation; Sweden Codes is not affiliated with Valve.
